Chiranjeevi’s Prajarajyam party was offered a merger with Indian National Congress party. However, Chiranjeevi wanted more time to think on this and decide if it would be a complete merger or just extension of support if state government falls into crisis.
PRP is expected to announce its decision on monday, feb 7th. But legal advisers claim that PRP may face anti-defection law if atleast 7 out of 18 PRP MLAs oppose a merger. Atleast 12 MLAs should be ready to merge into other party or else all of them trying to merge will lose their membership in assembly.
Vanga Geetha may get deputy speaker post and 3 more MLAs are expecting cabinet berths if any alliance or merger is taking place. On the other hand, minister Komatireddy Venkatreddy demanded that Chiranjeevi should apologise to telangana people before joining hands with congress because he took u-turn on seperate telangana issue and congress would be badly effected by him supoorting them.
The second-rung leaders, who had an interaction with Chiranjeevi, told him that he should demand adequate share in the nominated posts in the government and the Congress party. They also wanted to secure a statement from Sonia Gandhi directly on the merger plan.
“More than 90 per cent of the party leaders have given their consent for the merger of the PRP with the Congress. There have been no threats of resignation from any quarters,” former minister and PRP political affairs committee member Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao told the media.
