Four members of a family committed suicide in a lodge in the temple town, Tirupati on Thursday. Their bodies were found by a lodge worker in the morning. The reasons for the extreme action are not known yet.
Kumara Swamy, 32, a petty trader, took a room in MSR lodge in D R Mahal area along with his family on Wednesday. Swamy with ex-wife Usha, 28, and two daughters visited several temples in Tirupati, Tirumala and Srikalahasti in the last four days before taking the extreme step to end their lives, sources said. While the couple hanged themselves to the ceiling fan in the room, the daughters , Tanushree, 13, and Nikitha, 10 were given pesticide-laced cool drink. They hailed from Sagguvaripalle village in Bangarupalem mandal of Chittoor district.
Police said financial problems could be the reason behind the suicide. Swamy left behind a suicide note stating that no one was responsible for their deaths and that their body organs could be donated to Chiranjeevi Eye Bank in Hyderabad. Sources said he divorced Usha four years ago and married his sister’s daughter. “Swamy met Usha a week ago and was moving around with her. We do not know what transpired between them that led to the suicide,” a police official said. A case has been registered.
