Mani Rathnam planned to make periodical Tamil movie Ponniyin Selvan with Vijay and Mahesh Babu in lead roles.
But his budget was increasing as he was preparing the script and he was advised by few financiers to replace Mahesh with Ram charan so that some part of the budget could be raised after Maaveeran(Magadheera in Tamil) will be released.
Mani rathnam was also impressed by Charan’s look in Magadheera and decided to cast him as King Aditha Karikalan.
But when he completed the script, his budget estimation was almost 100 crores and nobody turned up to fund that much amount for him.
He was advised to shelve this project and as of now Ponniyin Selvan dream of Ram charan to act in straight Tamil movie is not happening.
